Suggestion box, User survey (standard questionnaire) and analysis

4 THE ACTUAL PRACTICE
User survey was conducted by using standard questionnaire and consolidated
data were analyzed, Submitted to the advisory committee for the further action
to Improve & bring changes in library services.

5 OBSTACLES FACED & STRATEGIES ADOPTED
The II and III year undergraduate students of SBMJC KGF were considered for the survey. Since the study is based on the library use, it involves collecting information from students. It was extremely difficult to study the whole population so a representative sample of users 150 samples were considered. Out of which 78 girls and 72 boys were considered.

INFORMATION LITERACY PROGRAMME

2. OBJECTIVES OF THE PRACTICE

To orient the library user to the facilities and services provided by the library
To provide guidance on accessing E-resources (n-list) to faculties and students.

3. CONTEXT THAT REQUIRED INTIATION OF THE PRACTICE

Staff and the students (both in terms of skill and time) and computer with
internet access

4. THE ACTUAL PRACTICE

We provide guidance about how to use the technology, internet resources, E-resources (n-list) to faculties and students. The information literacy programs provide skills and knowledge needed to identify, evaluate and ethically use information to support academic excellence.

5. OBSTACLES FACED & STRATEGIES ADOPTED
This program is very useful to students who doesn’t have access to internet and who want to develop their technical skills.

KANNADA BOOK EXHIBITION

2 OBJECTIVES OF THE PRACTICE

To create awareness among the readers about Library collections

3 CONTEXT THAT REQUIRED INTIATION OF THE PRACTICE

Sufficient space to exhibit collections, Notices, Brochures, publicity and student
co-ordinators

4 THE ACTUAL PRACTICE

Displaying Kannada language books, rare books which are available in the library
during the Kannada Habba celebrated by the Department of Kannada.It creates
awareness among the students and staff the knowledge wealth the library posses

5 OBSTACLES FACED & STRATEGIES ADOPTED

During Book week students concentrate more on their respective subject
Books. To create interest in literature also during Kannada Habba,
Kannada books were displayed

Computerization of Library with standard software

2. OBJECTIVES OF THE PRACTICE

To facilitate the library staff in their day to day functions

3. CONTEXT THAT REQUIRED INTIATION OF THE PRACTICE

Standard software, Server, Client, LAN, Printer & Library staff

4. THE ACTUAL PRACTICE

All the data nearly 12,000 catalogue entries & 700 membership details were done by
The library staff and the transaction are being done with the help of circulation module.

5. OBSTACLE FACED & STRATEGIES ADOPTED

The software is user friendly, it improved the quality of services, and statistics is easily
Maintained but there are still many areas which we need to work are Web OPAC,
Periodical entry, Digital Module.

BEST PRACTICE 2018-19

1 Title of the practice: Library Blog (http://sbmjckgf.in/wplib/

2 Objectives of the practice: To provide un-interrupted access to the library resources searchable from anywhere, anytime, by anyone.

3 Content: Web server with tools, backup facility with security mechanism. Library staff members with skills in designing, and periodically updating of the activities of information resources.

4 Actual practice: Library Blog is key to its resources with extended facility to link useful resources with dynamic and seamless access facility. Library Blog is user friendly with all the useful information organized logically. Library staff members, who acquired necessary skills are maintain and update the information with periodic checks. This is linked to the College Website.

5 Evidence of Success: Library users visit the Blog regularly and the total hits per day are a measure to know the steep increase over the period. Users interact with the library staff with suggestions and appreciations as the case may be.

6 Obstacles: Library Software and the OPAC have to connect to the blog.

7 Strategies Adopted: Updating the Library Software with newer version
