NPTEL-SWAYAM ORIENTATION 2025-26

On July 8, 2025, an NPTEL-SWAYAM orientation was organized for first-year B.Com and BBA students in the Conference Hall, attended by 150 students. The event aimed to introduce them to the benefits of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) platform.

Key highlights of the session included:

  1. Introduction to MOOCs and NPTEL: Mr. Harish, Assistant Professor and SPOC member, explained the concept of MOOCs and NPTEL, highlighting their importance in enhancing students’ knowledge and skills.
  2. Benefits of certificate courses: The session emphasized the value of NPTEL’s certificate courses, which can supplement regular coursework and boost employability.
  3. Course list and timeline: Students were informed about the available courses, timelines, and schedules, helping them plan their learning journey effectively.
  4. Motivation and guidance: Dr. Kasturi, Head of the Department of Commerce, presided over the program and motivated students to make the most of NPTEL resources and take ownership of their learning.
  5. Senior students shared their learning experiences and motivated others to take the course.

By participating in this orientation, students gained a clearer understanding of the NPTEL platform and its potential to enrich their academic experience.

Additionally, a similar orientation was organized for first year BCA, BSC, BGP, and PMCS students in the Auditorium on July 14, 2025. Around 140 students attended the program, which was presided over byMadam Chitra S., Assignment Professor from the Department of Computer Science, and Madam Abiyal J.S., Assistant Professor from the Department of Physical Science. They guided students on how to effectively leverage online resources for academic growth.

Online Certification Courses

National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is a project of MHRD initiated by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Guwahati and Roorkee) along with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2003, to provide quality education to anyone interested in learning from the IITs. The main goal was to create web and video courses in all major branches of engineering and physical sciences at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and management courses at the postgraduate level.

Courses provided through online portal, 4-, 8-, or 12-week online courses, typically on topics relevant to students in all years of higher education along with basic core courses in sciences and humanities with exposure to relevant tools and technologies, are being offered. The enrolment to and learning from these courses involves no cost. An in-person, proctored certification exam (optional) will be conducted at Rs. 1000/- per course and a certificate is provided through the participating institutions and industry, when applicable.

  • BSC students enrolled for  Dairy And Food Process And Products Technology

Total number of students appeared for exam and received certificate is 02.

Majority students unable to take up exam due to their university exam.

Conclusion: The orientation program successfully introduced first-year degree students to NPTEL’s benefits and resources. Participants demonstrated enthusiasm for leveraging NPTEL to enhance their learning experience.
